Many say that politics may in fact be Hollywood for the ugly, and politics sure does gets very ugly.
Whether it is an undying need for support and attention, scandal, and conflicts, politics covers it all.
From personal melodramas like Bubba and Monica Lewinsky to the more serious allegations such as the Bush Administration’s ties to 9/11, politics has never let us down as an everlasting soap opera.
The only thing that separates these political dramas from soap operas is the fact that many of these dramatic stories effect the lives of millions of people.
The recent aftermath of the passage of the healthcare bill was a surge of Republicans crying out an end to our personal freedoms and the destruction of the Constitution, while the majority of Democrats are in support of Obama and healthcare reform.
During the Bush administration post 9/11, the very same Republicans pushed for the Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act and the FISA bill, while the Democrats and Supreme court deemed many of these acts unconstitutional. Barack Obama during his campaign back in 2008 had an all-out agenda against the Patriot Act, only to sign an extension of it in 2010 without so much as a peep from the Democrats. Do you see a trend?

Is American politics fueled by inflated egos unable to admit their wrongdoings and hypocrisies? While politicians, banking elites and corporations are worried about their image and their pockets, actual people are suffering due to their actions. In a democratic society, positions of power are sought by those who desire them, and those who desire them are usually power-driven. With power-driven politics comes ego. The fuel adding to the fire is the money that is offered by the corporations and power offered by mainstream acceptance.
Senator Dennis Kucinich spoke out vehemently against the healthcare bill. Stating “I don’t like much of anything about this process,” in regard to the healthcare bill and the voting process. After a visit by President Obama and a private conversation on Air Force One, he was swayed, and voted in favor of the healthcare reform. How can we trust candidates to represent us, “The People,” when these very politicians can be so easily swayed by their “superiors” and acceptance?
While Americans are divided by a two-party system, blaming one or the other for the current issues, the true culprits get away clean. Politicians, corporations, banking institutions and so on never take responsibility for their actions and fix their wrongs. They simply play into the two-party system, going back and forth, creating divisiveness and an aura of confusion. The bottom line is that “We The People” aren’t being represented truthfully. We are being represented based on a game of personal gain and power-driven politics. How can we benefit from a political system that creates a problem, divides it and never takes responsibility, while the problem makers get away with a pocket full of money and praise?
